Geology site description:

Near Cal Orcko many dinosaur tracks can be seen on a hundred-meter-high wall in a cement quarry. The wall is 70 degrees steep because of the tectonics in this area. There are more than 5,000 steps counted, grouped into multiple tracks. Cal Orcko has globally the most number of tracks. The site has been nominated for the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The tracks are from the Upper Cretaceous and were made in soft lime mud of the Molina Formation. The chalkmud was at the shore of a freshwater lake. The tracks are approximately 68 million years old. The tracks were discovered in 1994. There are seven successive levels found with tracks. Analysis of the tracks showed that Titanosaurus Ankylosaurus, Carnotaurus and have left their tracks here. Also traces of carnivorous Theropods have been found.

From Sucre several tours are offered to the site. Near the quarry is a dinosaur museum.
