In Glendive deposits from the Hell Creek Formation are exposed. These deposits are rich in fossil remains of dinosaurs from the Maastrichtian, part of the Upper Cretaceous period. The deposits were formed near the shore of a shallow inland sea. The bone material was transported by rivers to the lake and in the deposits. Most bones are therefore spread and are no more complete skeletons.
Most of the land is privately owned. With the permission of the land owner you can collect here. On public land collecting fossil vertebrates is not allowed. South of Glendive amminites can be found on public lands which can be taken. The easiest way to search in the Hell Creek Formation in Glendive is to participate in organized tours. This can be expensive. Note that sometimes you are not allowed to take all fossils home.
See for example Baisch's Dinosaur Digs.
