Location description

In this quarry sediment from the Malm and Dogger (part of the Jurassic period) are exposed. It is allowed to collect fossils here if you pay 45 euro per person per day. The way to register for this is not known to us.

Sengenthal is located in the region of Oberpfalz, about 40 kilometres southeast of Furth in southeast Germany. The quarry is close to Sengenthal.

Ammonites, gastropods and brachiopods.

The quarry of Sengenthal is very well known for well shell-preserved fossils of the red "Parkinsonienoolith". The photo shows four examples: One specimen of Parkinsonia parkinsoni (at the right, it measures about 12 cm), a litte Cadomites deslongchampsi, a rare gastropod and a common kind of rhynchonellid brachiopod. © Photo: Sönke Simonsen
