Flint

Flint is a relatively hard rock composed of SiO2, a form of the mineral Quartz without crystal structure. Flint is usually secondary formed in limestone after deposition. The flint concretions form in the limestone, usually around irregularities in the rock such as fossils and burrows, but also in certain levels in the rock. The concretions are formed by displacement of dissolved silicon within the rock. The color can range from almost black to red, yellow or very light.

In prehistoric times, flint tools were often used as scrapers and hand axes.
