Medusozoa

The subphylum Medusozoa is a group within the phylum Cnidaria that includes the jellyfish. These are free-swimming, soft organisms that rarely fossilize. Clear rare fossil remains have been found in sediments from the Cambrian period. Some jellyfish-like fossils are known from older deposits, and it is almost certain that the group itself is even older. Jellyfish are predators that capture prey using tentacles equipped with stinging cells.
