Geology site description:
In Uden the Peelrand fault is present in the subsurface. This fault is still geologically active and has caused an elevation in the landscape in Uden. The Peelrand fault is part of a whole system of fractures in Brabant and Limburg. In the recent past, these fractures are caused significant earthquakes.
Besides the differences in height in the landscape, the fractures can be recognized tby wells. The fracture surface is made of clay and iron minerals and is hardly permeable. As a result, the upper part of the fault is wetter than the bottom part because the water can not escape.
The difference in height and the wells can be seen in the landscape near Uden. In ditches in the vicinity of the fault orange colored iron deposits are present.
