Geology site description:

In the Meester van der Heijden quarry in New Namen, the remains of the oldest beach in the Netherlands can be visitted. The beach deposits were formed in the Pliocene (approximately 3 million years old), and these are covered by eolian sand from the Pleistocene era. The beach deposits contain various kinds of fossils. You can also see the characteristic cross bedding in the beach sediments.
