At the Gasthof and Pension Schlehenmühle you can hunt fossils for a fee. For a fee of €5 for adults and €3 for children, you receive hammers and a bucket. Down the hill, the owner of the Gasthof has a pile of rocks, that he gets from the quarry on the Hohenmirsberger Platte, in which you can hunt for fossils. This material dates from the so-called 'white Jurassic', i.e, the Malm.
This site is very child-friendly.

Follow the st2260 northbound from Egloffstein. After 3.2 km, turn right. Pay attention here, as the main road makes a near-180 degrees turn in the other direction, up the mountain. After the righthand turn, follow the road another 1.4 km, untill you reach the Gasthof.
