Location description

At the northeast side of the Traunsee one can find Santonian to Lower-Maastrichtian deposits. The strata are exposed in the area surrounding the stream called Lidringbach. In the area around this stream, and in the rock/mudflow called 'Gschliefgraben' one can find ammonites, inoceramids, echinoids and occasionally also crabs. 

Gschliefgraben is an active mudflow, so be aware that the terrane is unstable!

This locality is situated south-east of the town of Gmunden en can be reached via the L1304. It is possible to hike up from Ramsau to reach the locality.

In the lose rocks in the mudflow one can find abundantly inoceramids and other bivalves, as well as echinoids.

Beatifull examples of ammonites that can be found in the Gschliefgraben locality are exhibited in the Kammerhof museum in Gmunden.
