Near Fairborn the Oakes Quarry Park is located. In this old quarry is a special section where fossil collecting is allowed. The fossils date from the Silurian period. Elsewhere in the quarry it is not allowed to collect fossils. There are a lot of geological information panels, and there is a fossil coral reef to see.

Fairborn is located in the eastern part of the state of Ohio, 10 kilometers northeast of Dayton. The Oakes Quarry Park is located east of the town along East Xenia Drive.
