Location description

Along the banks of the Potomac River are various types of fossils can be found from the Aquia Formation from the Paleocene, part of the Paleogene. The clay is eroded here by the effects of the river and the sea. In the Purse State Park it is allowed to collect fossils. In other places along the river, however, fossils also occur.

Watch the tides. The beach is only accessible at low tide. See also the Website of the Purse State Park.
