In the vicinity of Holbrooke petrified wood can be found at multiple locations. In contrast to the nearby Petrified Forest National Park, fossil collecting is allowed here after permission of the owner of the land. Undoubtedly pertrified wood can also be found in other places in the area.
The fossil wood in the Chinle formation comes from the Triassic period. The fossil wood has a red color.
