Location description

The mountain ridge Jabal Tuwaya, west of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia consists of sloping sediments from the Jurassic period. These consist mainly of limestone. Here you find a variety of fossils from the Jurassic period.

East of the ridge sediments from the Cretaceous period are exposed. West of the ridge sediments from the upper Permian and Triassic age are present.

The ridge has the shape of a curve and is located to the west of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. The ridge has a length of about 800 kilometers. Due to the desert climate and the lack of vegetation, there is an abundance of natural outcrops.
