Location description

On Hornby Island fossils are found from the Northumberland Formation from the Campanian to the lower Maastrichtian, part of the upper Cretaceous. The fossils are mainly found in concretions in the gray shales.

Hornby Island is located in the southwest of Brittish Columbia. The best place to search is the foreshore at low tide at Collishaw Point in the northwest of Hornby Island.

Ammonites, bivalves, gastropods, shark teeth (several dozen species are known from here), crabs. A new species of Pterosaur was found here: Gwawinapterus beardi. Bones of vertebrates such as Mosasaur are rare.
