At the coast of the Red Sea between Hurghada and Marsa Alam reef terrasses are present from the Pleistocene, in which various kinds of fossils can be found. Besides fossils that are visible to the naked eye, within the sediment many microfossils such as foraminifera exist. The species diversity is large with hundreds of species present.
Caution! Collecting fossils and taking them home is not permitted in Egypt.

The Pleistocene deposits are accessible on the coastal plain along the Red Sea between El Gouna near Hurghada and Marsa Alam.Drag the map and zoom in or out for the best view of this locality.
Bivalves, gastropods, bryozoa and foraminifera. Also skeletal parts of sponges and sea urchins occur.
