Location description

In the large Hall Dale quarry near Matlock limestone from the Eyam formation, Visean, Mississippiaan, Carboniferous period is exposed. The limestone is very fossiliferous. Although it is an abandoned quarry, there is still much to find. There are several linked quarries, accessible by foot. Use hammer and chisel to extract the fossils.

Matlock is located in Derbyshire in the middle of England. From Matlock go south on Snifferton Road. At the end go left and park after 50 meters at the left side of the road. Follow the path througt the woods to the quarry. At the other side of the road is another area with abandoned quarries.
