Balingen is located in the middle of sediments from the Hettangian (Lias alpha, black Jura), part of the Jurassic period. This collecting site was productive in 2000, 2007, and 2008. The Obtususton formation in Balingen consists of marls with an occosional limestone layer.

Balingen is located in the Schwäbic Alb region in the southwest of Germany. The collecting location (erddeponie) is located northeast of Balingen. From Balingen follow the local road to Engstlatt (K7125). After the viaductbelow the B27, go to the right. After a short while you will see the Erddeponie at your right.

Rocks with ammonites, belemnites, and bivalves (mainly Gryphea).
