Location description

In the Buffalo Creek near Elma, New York, the river cuts into limestone and shales from the Givetian, part of the middle Devonian period. The shales are exposed in a low cliff a few meters high.

This locality is only accessible when the water is low, mostly in spring.

Fossils occur in the whole river and sidestreams, in the sediments as well as between the loose pebbles.
