Location description

On the Venice beach in Florida fossil shark teeth and other fossils from the Bone Valley beds can be found. The deposits are from the Miocene and Pliocene, part of the Neogene period. Due to erosion of sediments on the sea bottom, the fossils wash ashore on the beaches.

Fossils of Pleistocene (part of the quaternary period) mammals can also be found.

Some people use diving gear to collect fossil shark teets and other fossils in the shallow water off the coast.
