Location description

At the coast of the Russian enclave Kaliningrad you can find amber on the beach. The best season is in the winter after storms. Some people use to fish for amber at the shore.

In eroding under sea deposits there is amber (fossil tree resin) from the Eocene, part of the Paleogene period. After storms the amber washes ashore.

Amber is also quarried here on a large scale in quarries. About 50 percent of the annual worlds production of amber comes from the Kaliningrad area.

Sometimes the amber contains flies or other insects. In Kaliningrad amber is cheap, so there is also good opportunity for buying amber.
