West of Boltaña in northern Spain there is a enormous fold in the sediments. The sediments consist of limestone and marls from the Eocene (part of the Paleogene period).

Boltaña is located west of Ainsa in the middle of the Spanish Pyrenees. Fossils are found west of Boltaña in the limestone deposits.
