Cranidium

The cranidium is the central part of the cephalon of a trilobite. The cephalon or head usually has a cranidium and two librigenae or free cheeks. The line between both is called facial suture or just suture. This is where the cephalon seperates when the animal moults. Loose cranidia or librigenae can be found. These usually are the remains of moulting.
