Fungi are in the taxonomy a kingdom under which organisms like fungus and yeasts can be found. The fossil records for fungi date back to the Devonian period, the fossils are usually microscopically small. Larger fungi are also known, such as the iconic Prototaxites which is thought to be some type of fungus. Fungi are possibly much older than the Devonian period, unfortunately the fossil records are very fragmentised.
