Stibnite Antimone ore
Within the subclass of the Elasmobranchii, the super order of Batoidea resides rays, sawfish and guitar rays. Fossil representatives are known since the early Triassic. They are cartilaginous fish, whose remains are very rare to find, since most skeletal parts do not fossilize. Only in very rare and extremely well preserved formations like lägerstatten, remains can be found
Most fossil Batoidea remains consist of tooth plates and dermal spines. Ray teeth can often be found for example in sandy Neogene marine deposits.
A complete specimen, like this one from Lebanon, is exceptional!
