The agnatha, or jawless fish, form a superclass within the phylum Chordata. Recent representatives of this superclass are, among others, the lamprey (e.g. the European brook lamprey Lampetra planeri). The earliest fossil representatives are found in the Cambrian period, making it one of the earliest records for the Chordata in the fossil record.
