Pegmatite is a silicium-rich igneous rock with exceptionally large crystals (more than 2.5 cm). It is largely composed of the mineral Quartz, Feldspars and types of Mica, just like Granite. Only the crystal size is different. The formation of Pegmatite is still under discussion, but it took place at least 6 to 8 kilometers deep in the Earth's crust. In Pegmatite other rare minerals and precious stones can occur.
