Cover sand

Cover sand is an eolian sediment. During the last ice age the North Sea in Northern Europe was a dry, tundra-like landscape. Material from this area was blown away by strong winds. This was deposited nearby as eolian sand deposits. Further away in Northern Europe loess was deposited on a large scale. Loess is fine dust-like sand, which is easier transported over large distances than sand.
