Otoliths are hearing bones of fish. These are in the vestibular system and are used to procvide information about the position of the fish in the water column. The hearing bones are made up of a number of thin layers of lime. Usually, they are up to one centimeter in size. They are regularly found as fossils in Paleocene and Neogene deposits.
