Salt lake

A salt lake is formed when water is not drained from a basin, and is allowed to evaporate. Any additional water inflow eventually evaporates, leaving dissolved salts behind, leading to an accumulation of salts and rising salt concentrations in the remaining waters. Eventually, a salt crust is formed. When a salt lake evaporates entirely, a salt flat remains.  Famous examples of salt lakes are the Great Salt Lake in the US, and the Dead Sea.
