Evaporite

An evaporite is a sedimentary rock that is formed by evaporation. When the concentration of salts in the sea becomes too high due to evaporation, the salts form deposits on the bottom. When the influx of new water with dissolved salts continues, this can result in thick deposits of evaporites.

The two best known evaporites are Halite (rock salt) and gypsum.
