Cordierite middle in box
A cuesta is a steep hill, ridge or cliff in the landscape formed by sedimentary rock strata which is gently tilted. The tilted side is usually relatively steep. The succession of layers is visible on this side. The other, less steep side of the cuesta is in fact the surface of the top layer. Because in geological successions hard and less hard layers of rock often alternate erosian causes valleys where soft outcrops have been and cuestas at hard outcrops.
