A orthoceras, or orthocone was a kind of squid-like animal. It was an elongated animal. In the orthocone fossils the "chambers" are often clearly visible. Orthocones are classed inside the Cephalopods. These fossils are sometimes abundant in sediments from the Ordovician, Silurian and Devonian periods.
