The classic definition of prehistory is the part of human history in which no written sources are available. Today, the term is often interpreted by slightly wider period, when hunter-gatherers lived. There is still much debate about the definition.

The end of prehistory varies from place to place. Depending on the place on Earth and the development of peoples who lived there, the prehistory can have ended thousands of years ago. Or in the case of the current remote primitive peoples, the prehistory cabn have ended less than a hundred years ago.
