Miocene

The Miocene is the oldest part of the Neogene period. The Miocene lasted from 23 to 5.3 million years ago. The Miocene is followed by the Pliocene. During the Miocene there was a relatively warm climateand many (mammalian) animal developed further in the direction of the current varieties. Further developed the grasses and herbs. A part of the Alpine orogeny occurred during the Miocene.
