Anura

Within the group of the amphibians (Amphibia) you'll find the Anura. They're known as frogs or toads and they are the largest group of the Amphibia, containing the highest amount of species diversity. Salamanders and caecilians are the other groups within the Amphibia. Frogs can be recognized by their flattened body and their protruding eyes.

The metamorphosis of frogs, starting from the larval stadium until it becomes an adult frog, is unique among vertebrates. The oldest frog dates back to the lowermost Triassic period and is approximately 250 million years old. The first amphibian ancestors of frogs however have been around since the upper Devonian period.
