The expression aff. is used in scientific nomenclature to indicate a potential relation of a new species with a known species. In other words, it kan be read as 'resembling...'.

For example, a trilobite described by Morzadec as 'Heliopyge aff. helios' indicates that it is a Heliopyge that closely resembles H. helios, but might nonetheless be a different species.
