Comments:
Recent specimens of this species are very common along the Dutch beaches. This specimen is not translucent and clearly recrystallized, so probably dating from the Pleistocene.

Comments:
From the North Sea beach of the island of Ameland. Thick-walled, brown and blue colored valves, such as this one, are very common on the Dutch Wadden islands and are usually of early Holocene age.
